Anyone interested if I do a review of Promise NS4300N?
Just bought some shiny new 1TB disks and doing some testing on my NS4300N bought a bit more than a month ago. If anyone interested in some detailed review I could try doing one.
If there is no one interested in NAS review then I might as well skip it :juggle:.

This is quite a slow NAS as it use the MPC8343 400Mhz CPU.
So far I've found GbE (Jumbo-frame off) performance with newest firmware is 7~12MB/s (Samba) / solid 8.2MB/s (FTP).
It is probably due to both RAID5 parity calculation and large network overhead of standard frame size.
My switch is not Jumbo-frame capable, but I might do direct connection to my NF4 board and activate GbE to test Jumbo-frame performance.
But consider I bought this unit for less than the price of a N2100, I would say it is a pretty good unit.

How much did this setup (controller & HDDs) cost in total?

NAS = £181
HDD = £534 (4x1TB)
Total cost = £715, 23.8p/GB of fault tolerance storage.
Which is only slightly more expensive than my existing configuration:
3Ware 9500S-8 = £150
HDD = £240 (8x300G, Assume current price £30 each)
Total cost = £390, 21.6p/GB of fault tolerance storage.
But than the NAS only occupy 1/6 the space of my Eclipse 62 and only use 1/3 the power (77W Start-up, 49W R/W)!
Although I'm more concerned that it will take almost 4 days to fill up the array at maximum writing speed :S
