a PSU that fulfills those two qualities - cheap but useable...
trying to get one to stick in my old P2 computer, so that I can actually sell the thing without it being handed back to me in under 24 hrs
selling it for ~£30, so trying to find one that's useable underneath that price.

aint used mine for long i was just testing it for a cheep PSU
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
The Silverpower is a good PSU although the one tested is the first version. The second version has a 120mm fan and I got one of these for a build I did. Seems quite quiet and so far no issues.
That doesn't have a PCI-E connector and only 2 SATA. But as long as the PC doesn't need those then this is a good buy.
From the Silverpower Review: "It’s finished in shiny black paint and it has twin 80mm fans. (= noisy) Oddly enough the 80mm fan is mounted externally, which means that if you have a small case you might have problems with your optical drives hitting the fan and not fitting properly."
I'm sure I've also heard stories of them blowing up.
Like I stated earlier the second version(which is the one currently available) of the Silverpower 400W PSU has one 120mm fan and one 80mm fan mounted internally.
i got one from scan last week it has 2 80mm fans one is external just like pix shown

As much as it shames me to admit it, I managed to plug an IDE cable in backwards, meaning that I had negative->negative instead of positive->negative.. Bit embarresing, but at least it means I get £30 profit instead of about £5 (after buying PSU)

The more recent cables & drives wouldn't allow that. But the rule was always, "red to red" (red strip on the ribbon cable has to be next to the red wire on the power molex).
How about his one? Came with free deliver, seems as if the offer has changed now.
