cd causing drive thrashing

I have a cyberlink power dvd cd. it works, however it causes drive thrashing and spinning up/down. cause to return it to cyberlink for replacement? what can I do?

Probably has a scratch or maybe is just dirty. Have you checked?

have you got access to another cd/dvd drive to try it in?
my cd/rw drive makes a lot of noise when i put anything other than writable discs in it, don't know why, it just does, so maybe try it in a plain old cd drive that doesn't write.

If it's on the comp in your 'my system' specs, then the laptop drive might be gunked up with stuff (biscuits fizzy drinks) so if you can try and clean it.

basically, try in another drive, clean the one you've got.
