Akasa TIM Remover

Is it anygood? I was thinking of getting this originally Arctic Silver Arcticlean

Basically I recently had to RMA my mobo so the CPU and HS&F came out and now have to be cleaned before reusing them, I had used AS5 as the TIM.

Any recommendations, also do I need a lint free cloth (the same as a glasses cloth?)

What lint free cloths do you use & where from? Is a spectacles cloth ok?

Yes - I use it - but I normally finish off with a rinse with IPA to remove any residues the cleaner might leave behind (probably unnecessary)

On the whole unless you have the most stubborn TIM in the world then IPA (iso-propyl alcohol) will be all you need to remove it. Apply a small amount to a bit of tissue to remove the majority of the paste then use a lint free cloth to remove any final residue and remove any stray fibres/dust.

If you use any of the products which have citrus based degreasers in then you will need to use some alcohol to remove any residue left from the cleaner anyway.

You should be able to get IPA from any good electronics supplier (Maplin for example although you may find it cheaper elsewhere).

For what it's worth, Isopropyl alcohol doesn't effectively remove the oily residue that Akasa TIM clean leaves behind - not easily anyway.

It doesn't make any difference to your thermal goop, but I thought I would mention it and save you a job

I find that dry kitchen roll is the best for removing AS5/Ceramique type stuff.

Akasa TIM clean is great for stubborn harder compounds and cements like the stuff that Asus use for NB & SB heatsinks.

Isopropyl Alcohol will also work, but it takes more of it, and it tends to smear the stuff around. IPA can also be very effective on those sticky thermal pads and tape that you get on memory and graphics cards.
