multiple processors
Evening all, nice forum
Im rebuilding my pc atm and it gets a hard life (heavy gaming, media and cad use) its being rebuilt with an os systems hyperdrive to reallllly speed things up but now im looking att he rest of the system and what the next bottle necks are going to be. currently it runs an amd phenom quad processor but i cant helping wondering how good it would be running 2 or more processors. what are the advantages/disadvantages of these systems and are the multiprocessor boards out there any good or is it a one off special type thing?
thanks,
harry

Re: multiple processors
Its only any good if you have software programmed to use all the cores. Unfortunately most software will only use one maybe 2 cores. If you know the software you will be using will be able to take adavntage of the extra cores then it may be worth it, if not its best to bide your time and upgrade a bit later.

Re: multiple processors
you have an amd pehnom currently right? and asking about the dual processor server boards, dont bother. The price they are at makes its useless unless its a server properly, even then it still just manages to be worth it. A single board that supports a quad cpu is just like it really, its 4 processors on 1 chip and so it is like a quad processor board etc. Stick with your processor it should be fine :).
