    5.1 Headphones Version?

I shall be heading to Scan later today to buy a new PSU and a set of headphones. The problem is I am still undecided as to which to get?
I most likely will go for the Speed-Link Medusa's as my Son has a set and he says they are great. But his require the use of 4x 3.5mm jacks for the sound and a USB port to power them. I actually fancy the mobile edition of the Medusa's for it's lack of the need for a wiring harness as it is a USB only version for both sound and power with the added bonus of a removable mic. The thing is though, does the sound quality suffer with the USB version or should I go for the multi-plug into your sound card option?

the sound quality does suffer yes, i recommend going for the 3.5mm jacks... still i preferred my pair with the separate amp box to power them.

the 5.1 ones arent all that special. I had a 5.1 headset from scan. the only thing I hated was the mic and when I went to sennheisers it was almost like the same.

    Re: 5.1 Headphones Version?

decisions decisions, i was gonna get a set of steelsound 5hv2's, only to get to MD in stockport only to find that the last 2 pairs were taken to "use" by their other office - at least that was what i was told by the muppet in there, a waste of an hour's worth of driving and diesel

anyway gonna be busy for a few days so looking for something, now it's a toss-up between the 5hv2's or a pair of medusa's, not a lot of difference in price. i've heard good things about the medusa's but not heard anything about the steelsound's, anybody got any experience of them?

one question, my mobo has onboard 7.1 will the medusa's 5.1 work as 5.1 on a 7.1 system? if you get what i mean.

    Re: 5.1 Headphones Version?

You will be fine you just wont have one jack plugged in (hmm that may be confusing) you wont have 1 jack to plug in so you will have 1 empty hole. Your sound card/onboard sound software should have a dropdown menu or similar to select how many speakers you are using.

    Re: 5.1 Headphones Version?

right i've made my decision...................well it's to late as they've been ordered, and i've gone for the medusa 5.1 with the jack plugs. based on the fact that i've not heard anything (good or otherwise) of the steelsound jobbies.

the steel series are good but the sound quality is lacking compared to the medusa's, they are comfy though.

My Son has had both because he broke his original set of Steels by dropping them on the floor and was only then able to buy the Medusa's at the time. He did say to me the same thing, that the Medusa's are slightly better sounding, though he does prefer the in-line remote on the Speed's.

I'm inclined to agree, hence my original posting. So with that I have now been and bought the Medusa's with the 3.5 mm jacks.

    Thanks
