    Quiter fan for Shuttle SN45G

    Hi,

Got my shuttle setup fine, and the novelty of it being near silent compared to my other pc with 6 fans has worn off and the fan noise is starting to annoy me. It's just got the standard ICE cooling system and standard fan. What quieter fans do you recommend to replace it?

The fans on this page seem to be highly regarded as the best replacement fans for a Shuttle. Not sure which is best though, perhaps the S2 or the S3.

Someone with a shuttle can confirm this though!

The S3 is IMO the best compromise between airflow and noise.

Use the S4 if system is well loaded, or if not the S3.
If you give me the specs of your system, I'll advise.

I have a SN45G with DVD burner, 60 gig 7200 HD, ti4200 (soon to be replaced with 9800pro). I reckon I'll need a S4 but I've been thinking about an Aquarius watercooler instead though......

Unless you think that a S3 would do it?????

On that kinda system you'll need the S4, i have an S3 at the moment which really needs upgrading now i've changed my system as its beginning to struggle slightly with all the crap i've got running.

    Hi,

Well my system isn't that impressive, just mainly used for downloading, internet, music and films etc. XP2000, FX5200, 160Gb Seagate Hard Drive, 48x32x48x16 LiteOn Combo and 2x256mb DDR333 so maybe the s3 would do? The only time the fan speeds up is after about 10 mins of gaming, otherwise it's always on the quietest setting.

I got one of the Speeze 80mm's for a quid and a 40mm adda for the PSU from Dorothy Bradbury, was quite disappointed that it's still far from silent though

Having said that, the fan on my 9800pro is by far the noisiest thing...

You could prolly get away with an S3 with that setup.

Depends.... I used the Pot to let me adjust GFX card fan There's a usefull little hole at the top right corner of the suttle you can pop it through.

If you've got a fanless GFX card then OEM would be fine as the BIOS controls fan speed.
