    8800M GTS / 8800M GTX differences

How much real world differences are there between the GTX and GTS variant of the 8800 mobile geforce cards?

And does this Gateway P-6831 Laptop X7900 8800 GTS - Beats Dell M1730 on eBay, also, Laptops, Computing (end time 02-Mar-08 20:55:57 GMT)
    seem a reasonable price?

I know its not a penryn based core2 but looking at some pure cpu benchmarks there doesn't seem to be much difference in them (All Published SPEC CPU2006 Results) so I'm tempted to go for this (especially as its got HDMI output - all I really need to do is upgrade it to a blu-ray internal drive).

    Re: 8800M GTS / 8800M GTX differences

Didn't know we could get these in this country. Nice find

Gateway are doing some very reasonably priced gaming laptops and this one seems very good for the money. It's even got eSATA

GTS is a very good card from what I read. I havn't used either yet so can't tell you from personal expereince but at least the screen is a reasonable resolution. At 1920 x 1200 which I assume the dell is the GTX will be struggling unless you scale the resolution down where the GTS will kill 1440 x 900

Very well rounded laptop in all respects by the looks of things. It's just the basic warranty that might put me off, it's a lot of laptop afterall.

Not sure it's of any use but I've just seen this.
    Dell Inspiron XPS M1710

    There is a 2.33GHz version with a 7900GTX also.

They are refurbs I believe but come with a full 3 year dell on-site warranty and they are very powerful. No bad for less than £1000inc vat.

    Re: 8800M GTS / 8800M GTX differences

The GTS has 64 shader and the GTX has 96 shaders. I would try to get the GTX version as it is hard to upgrade even MXM notebook graphics cards.

Some results for the GTX in Crysis:

Rock Xtreme X770 laptop with Nvidia GeForce 8800M graphics | Reg Hardware

AnandTech: Exclusive: WidowPC Sting 517D2: GeForce 8800M GTX Benchmarks
