New Build Opinions Please
Hello I think these are the parts I want for my new system which is fairly basic, but allows a little overclocking and later in the year I might get a quad and a pci-e graphics card depending on my budget - but thats why it's pretty basic. The motherboard seems alright has firewire, IGP. Got the wireless card there as well.

So what do you think? Any issues you can think off? I'm pretty sure all is compatible but who knows in this world?!
Re: New Build Opinions Please
If you are going for 4 GB are you planning on using Vista 64 bit?
What PSU?
Re: New Build Opinions Please
Again why 4gb of ram, why don't you just get 2gb and spend the extra £30-£35 on a quicker processor?
I've got the same MB and manual recommends an E6550 for 1080p, your processor is capable of 720p.
Re: New Build Opinions Please
Well the cpu I was going to overclock a little it'll easy reach 2.4-2.6ghz - thats a mild overclock wouldn't you agree? that should be alright for 1080playback without probs. I think the Igp accelerates as well.
it's just budget right now, my computer is whacked out, i'm keeping the fujitsu scaleo t case with 350w power, all the disk drives and multicard reader. it's a solid case with space so it made sense to me
i'm going for 4gb straight away as this motherboard has 2 slots and rather than selling old to get new i thought what the hell and put in 4gb straight away. 64bit OS, yes. I'll put in my old xp one until i decide whether XP or Vista wins it. I've read about nlite and vlite which remove some of the bloating packages in both OS's. I really dont know much about that so i'll look into it later, but i do need a computer soon!
this way i'll only need to upgrade cpu and graphics when i have money. does that make sense? or is there a better option. I'm quite happy for it not to be stonking but with a decent upgrade future - maybe last 2 years. then i'll get me a nehalem based monster...i'm hoping to be richer by then ;)
Re: New Build Opinions Please
I think you should look at getting a new psu too, im guessing that 350W one is a generic one and wont really be up to powering a core2duo system. Something like this would be suitable:
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Re: New Build Opinions Please
It all depends on what you are planning to use it for, the 4GB could come in handy if you are wanting to play top games later (yes, you won't get it all if you have 32bit, but you'll still get 3GB at least), and its so cheap, there's no reason why not to really.
Regarding the processor, you might want to up it to a e4xxx series perhaps, the extra cache can make a noticeable difference in gaming (even if it is OCed), although less so for encoding.
