    GA 965P-DS3 rev1.0 doesn't work with Penryn?!

I was so disappointed. I flashed the BIOS to the latest F13O which is supposed to unofficially support 45nm Penryn but my E8400 still doesn't boot on it.
Googled it, found it has to be set to 'Load Optimised setting' in BIOS after flashed the BIOS. Tried again but still no lucks.

Does anyone here have the solutions for this? If not, what model of GA P35-DS3 you guys would recommend to me? Because there are so many out there with 'L','R' and 'P' after the model name, so bloody confusion. Thanks in advance!

Any particular reason for wanting a Gigabyte board?

Abit IP-35 Dark Raider should see you along well, and is often on Scan today only for ~£60

Thanks for the recommendation, mate! The reasons I prefer Gigabyte are:

    1. All solid-state caps
    2. Easy to use BIOS plus great BIOS upadate and supports. (maybe it's just for me)
    3. Never had a problem with their mobos, rock solid quality and great compatibility.

Maybe I'm wrong but I tried a couple of ABIT boards in the past, DOA rate is very high and compatibilty with RAM is awful.
Anyway, could you please highlight some of the features/reasons of the ABIT board you recommended? I might change my mind Thanks again!

Abit care forum which provides amazing support right here on hexus

not heard of any DOA's from abit, certainly not recently.

Abit IP-35pro is all solid caps if that is truely important. Dark Raider has solid caps in crucial areas.

I've ran Corsair and Geil and Crucial in abit IP-35's no problem. I dare say some will have used g-skill and OCZ pretty much ticking off all the usual suspects.

quite an abit fan myself.. has been far more solid than anyone else I've tested..

Gigabyte is not particularly my fav.. perhaps due to their ugly boards I guess..

Asus on the other hand have more DOA's than Abit.. at least in my experience..

I think it's really down to personal experience
Are the 2 ABIT boards very overclockable? How many phases of the power supply? How much do they do with E8400? Thanks for your info, btw!

Truely agree about the looks of GA boards. I was a DFI fan but it's hard to get them at the moment. Don't know what happened to their channels in UK.
Btw, do you recommend this board: Asus P5N-D, NF750i SLI?

I'm really looking for a SLI board. But most of them are too expensive and heard of plenty of bad comments. What do you think? Ta!

Re: GA 965P-DS3 rev1.0 doesn't work with Penryn?!

The PRO is one of the best, if not the best P35 board. Overclocking 1333MHz chips is more limited by the RAM. You need to get up to 900MHz to get the E8400 to 4.0GHz so you're looking at PC8000 or PC8500 RAM to do the job.

Not sure about the 750i boards.. I really wouldn't bother with SLi, I know from experience it's a waste of time.

I got 2 pairs OCZ PC8500 RAM, so no problem here. Just had a looking on SCAN. The power supply mofest on the board look a bit dodgy, how many phrases are they?

By the way, my 965P can change the FSB:RAM rate down to x2, running 440MHz FSB with only 880MHz RAM speed. Can the ABIT PRO do better? I'm actually looking forward to break 4.3GHz with my E8400

My dark raider is currently running 450MHz and I'm pretty sure it can go higher..

I am obviously limited by my memory.. PC6400 just wont cut it..

That's a good news, I assume it has the similar BIOS settings as my 965P DS3 on FSB:RAM ratio etc.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I might go for Dark Raider then, the name is soooo cool!
