    Show Me Your Quad Muscle

    Lo tech dudes

I was wondering if I could convince anyone with a Quad Core and running XP/Linux/Mac to show their true mettle and come FOLD WITH TEAM HEXUS for a few days?

We don't want you forever....unless you fall in love with us

But Team HEXUS, based here on the forums, are a bunch of fools who have joined in with a big challenge.

Folding@Home is an internet based Distributed Computing thing..... you run a bit of software which uses your PC's spare cycles.

It is desgined to help uncover the science behind natures way of folding Proteins and to help prevent disease and sickness in the future.

BUT...and this is the truth, it's also a race for power

Loads of IT and Hardware websites do this, as a team.

TEAM HEXUS just happen to be FLYING up the charts and I wondered if anyone fancied trying ? Lets put it into perspective. In May last year we started and were top 2000. Right now, in late Feb we are nearly Top 200 and that's GLOBAL!!!

The SMP version, which is what you need for the Quad Core chips, creates very very fast results and they SCORE HIGHLY

distributed computing - HEXUS.community discussion forums

    That's where we hang out....

Dont be put off by the massive amount of posts in the Sticky at the top.....read through to see howe to run it

Frankly....I managed to sort it, and I'm thick as pig pooh.

Please join...just for a few days. The offer is open to EVERYONE, of all CPU's, BUT.....

BUT..... quad cores do rock and once you've got one and it's sat around, browsing and playing music, it SHOULD be folding

Look forward ot seeing you in there....create your own thread and see who comes to help

I wouldn't mind contributing to team hexus on some other distrubuted project, currently running D2OL as an independent, 17.4Ghz, I ran f@h for a while over 400 wu's, 86k, now a d2ol team hexus would be nice

You don't need an ATI GPU - you can fold with any CPU - You can just fold on an ATI GPU too if you want to

Re: Show Me Your Quad Muscle

I put f@h on my main PC last night. I ran the downloaded exe (console version) and went through the steps. Its started and looked as if it was working, but it was only using 30% of my Q6600?? Am I missing something?

I've also got a QX6700 coming tomorrow, so provided I can get the SMP to run properly those should crunch some serious numbers along with my PS3.

If there is only one process running you have just installed the single threaded non-SMP command line client as opposed to the SMP version.

    This is what you need:
    SMP Windows Client

And here is a guide to installing it:
How do I install the SMP Console client in Windows Vista? - FaHWiki

I've a Quad core but I installed the folding program and it wouldnt work. Think I was being a noob. But it installed loads of databases services and stuff to, I got annoyed and just nuked it all.

You find me a noob friendly guide and I'll run it for a bit. Won't be 24/7 though as my pc is annoying when you wanna get to sleep!

3.68Ghz Q2C though so will probably churn through a few!
