    HSF recommendation for an E2160

    Aloha people,

I plan a mid-budget system bearing an Intel E2160 with reasonable overclocking to 2.5-3GHz. Unfortunately, I have no idea about stability and longevity at this conditions and how much cooling I would need.

In one of the cooler reviews Tom's hardware recommended the Coolermaster Hyper TX 2 as cheap but good device with standable noise properties. Will this be sufficient? I don't want my CPU to die after a half a year (Preferable, I'd like to keep it for the next two or three years).

    All comments appreciated

Re: HSF recommendation for an E2160

Depends on the budget really. The Arctic Freezer 7 pro is still a very good cooler and can be had for about £15 or less. I seem to remember it being better than the hyper TX.

If you have more like £23 then the Scythe Mine is a very good option.

£5 more will get you the better coolers such as Scythe Infinity or ninja or the thermalright ultima 90 + a cheapish fan like the xigmatec 120mm which is a great combination.

Re: HSF recommendation for an E2160

at £8 the coolermaster is excellent value, the arctic should be better but is nearly twice the price. The two xigmatek coolers are good value too and should outperform the arctic at £20ish (HDT S963 and S1263).

Re: HSF recommendation for an E2160

I had an infinity and it was cack, even though it did well in the Hexus review..... not too sure how reliable that review is though.... they reckon a Freezer 7 Pro is on a par with an Ultra 120.....

Freezer 7 Pro is a good budget cooler though, if you want to spend more, the Thermalright Ultima 90 is worth looking at.

Re: HSF recommendation for an E2160

I have the Arctic Freezer cooling my E2140 and its great. Currently overclocked at 2.56ghz with idle temps of 29C on both cores. Temps dont go any higher than about 47C on load either

Xigmatec's are pretty noisy so just for future recommendations I'd steer clear, Noctua / Sharkoon FTW.

Freezer 7 Pro is a great HSF, agreed. But what's the point to put such a 'Luxury' cooler on a cheapish CPU? It's about 1/3 of the CPU's price! And tbh, E2160 is quite cool, stock cooler is perfect, no need for upgrades. By the way, my HTPC overclocks the E2180 to 2.8GHz with stock cooler and it's running like a dream 24/7.

Well, the stock cooler may be fine, but I always had the oppinion that lower temperature equals long CPU life. I also heard that the stock HSF is a little noisy.
