Need a new quiet effective cooler for 2500+

Hi,

Got an XP2500+ and a Coolermaster Aero 7 Lite and my temps are off the scale. Before I had an Evercool cooler and an overclocked XP2000+ and my CPU temp was around 49C under load. Now with the XP2500+ and the coolermaster cooler its 55C idle creeping up to the 60C mark under load :eek:

I'm just using some coolermaster thermal paste. I tried cleaning the heatsink up and it dropped the temps by about 6C but only for a few days. I'm really wanting to overclock it but can't get much further at the moment without a new cooler.

Any suggestions for something for under or around £30 that's very quiet and fairly effective? I've just seen these:

Any opinions on coolers or how to get the temps down much appreciated. The rest of the system is fairly cool, two rear fans, a side intake fan, and a dual fan PSU so can't see how the CPU is getting so hot.

sk7, slk800 slk900 and the more recent thermalright ones are imo the best air coolers you can get. you should be able to pick up a sk7 for about £20. they use upto 80mm fans. slk800 is quite a bit better, but costs a bit more too, and might nolonger be made :o
slk900 is better, again costs more.
with a 10cfm fan (silent) my slk800 will keep my 1700+ @ 2.2ghz 1.85v down to 43c load, which is currently quite a few degrees better than what my watercooling is achiving, though that will be sorted soon :)
any cooler that is like so, will be good:
compleatly copper base/fins. large copper to air surface area. a 10-20 cfm fan should give good temps on an overclocked cpu. 30+ cfm should give below 37c temps.

note, temperature is relative and cannot be compared between motherboards due to them being unaccurate by upto +-15c

go thermalright or swiftech,other heatsinks are crap in comparison imho

Those temps don't seem right to me. My Aero 7 lite cools my 2500+ @ 3200+ speeds very well. Getting about 40c idle and 50c under load. And that is with the Aero 7 speed controller at 50% (so almost silent)! I'd check the contact with the core again and maybe add some Arctic Silver instead of thermal paste, but only a VERY small amount.

The aero 7 lite is on about 50% (can't hear it above my psu/case fans) and can't understand why its hotter than the Evercool fan it replaced. Think I'll try and get hold of some Arctic Silver V since the paste I've got is really cheap and I'll clean the heatsink/CPU up. If its still no better, I'll have some Arctic Silver for the next heatsink, and buy a better HSF. I'll try cleaning it up a bit tomorrow if i've got time,

Volcano 12 with a touch of Artic Ceramique. Keeps my 2600+ at 41c, when being clocked at 2.3ghz.

Cheap as well.

Having said that, when I had an Aero7 Lite, is did the job as well, maybe 2c hotter. Really shouldn't be getting 60c on an Aero7 lite, unless somethings not right.

theres a cheaper coolermaster silent cpu/fan that is fantastic cooling/dba for the price will look out the model etc for u

I've got a Thermalright SLK-947U, coupled with a panaflo 92mm fan on low, nanotherm pcm+.
My Barton 2500@2800 (need better ram to jump up to 400fsb) is at 46 celcius under full load at the socket and 53 at the diode (according to MBM), I'm quite happy with it :D

Oh, idea, where are you reading the temps from?
