Unhappy Yet another question on RAM (sorry)

Are these OK? I cant see anything wrong with them..

    4GB
    5-5-5-18 Latency
    800Mhz
    DDR2

    YOYOtech

Ive heard good AND bad things about OCZ Modules, so Im kind of confused

I want to be able to overclock them maybe, in the future

    My motherboard is Abit IP-35

Re: Yet another question on RAM (sorry)

Gold is OCZ "second string" memory. Probably won't OC very far.

If they`re running CAS5 now, I doubt, as Thorsson says, they`ll overclock far.

Re: Yet another question on RAM (sorry)

    What cpu are you getting?

If you want to overclock an E8400 to 4.0GHz or more get faster RAM. PC8000 would be good. Or PC6400 you know is good for 900MHz or more.

Re: Yet another question on RAM (sorry)

With a Q6600 you can go to 3.6GHz before you need to overclock 800Mhz RAM, so you will have no problems reaching 3GHz with that RAM, might be worth getting memory with tighter timings but you wont notice that much difference in real world applications.

Re: Yet another question on RAM (sorry)

These seem good! With my motherboard accepting 800Mhz at max and these been 1000Mhz.. would this be a problem or not?

Re: Yet another question on RAM (sorry)

PC6400 is technically the fastest recognised DDR2 ram but your motherboard will accept it i'm sure..but it will underclock it for 1:1 overclock anyway.

Tighter timings dont really do anything for core 2's it's just a reflection on overclocking potential.

Running 1:1 your ram will run 667MHz with a q6600 at 3.0GHz so I would just get these
    GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GB24GB6400C5DC)

or the OCZ kit you originally picked are fine.

Re: Yet another question on RAM (sorry)

    Yep thats right.

3.6GHz is all you can hope for out of a Q6600 so there's not point getting anything more than PC6400.

Re: Yet another question on RAM (sorry)

At a 1:1 ratio yes the FSB woulf be 400MHz.

    So for a Q6660 that is 400 * 9 = 3600Mhz
and the RAM would be 400 * 2 = 800MHz (for double data rate, DDR).

If you can get your Q6600 stable at 3.6GHz is a different matter not all can do it but a fair number can.
