    Difference between E8400 and X6800?

Hey all, when i was out there buying my Dual core e6300 almost a year back, the X6800 was expensive, justifying its cost with almost 3.0Ghz on each core? Anyways, when I overclocked my e6300 to 3.2Ghz, it beat the X6800 easily.

What though I fail to understand is, now Intel has brought E8400,E8500, these processors being clocked at 3 and 3.1 Ghz respectively, beat the X6800 at a much lower price, and beat it easily, saw the Toms Hardware CPU chart for 2007. Well what was intel's big plan with X6800? How are the people who bought these at $1000 better than the people who bought better performing processors for much much lower. Is this poor policy on Intel's part? I dont see any justification, maybe im wrong, so could you guys enlighten me?

I think you may be totally missing the point.
Just because a clock speed is different (quicker), from one CPU to another, it doesnt mean the faster clock speed is actually the quickest realtime chip.

The X6800 chip you had is WAY superior to the E6300.

On the last note.........believe nothing at TomsHardWare. The facts there are poor and rarely reflect truth <----my opinion (but still true)

An E6300 overclocked to 3GHz beats the X6800 at stock, overclock a X6800 and the E6300 is left far behind. The X6800 has an unlocked multiplier and Intels manufactured it with the highest quality chips.

    That was two years ago,

The X6800 is no longer manufactured or stocked, it's old and it's slow(er). The E8400 is faster not only because of it's clock speed as rightly mentioned by Blitzen but mainly due to it's 45nm manufacturing process. Now the QX9750 has taken the place of Intels most expensive desktop chip, again an overclocked E8400 can beat it but an overclocked QX9750 has no match.

Most people who bought the X6800 would have sold it and moved on by now, it was better performing two years ago.

It's very simple to understand: Slower old things get replaced with faster new things.

Hmm, thanks Blitz and DDY, has anyone tried overclocking an x6800, using watercooling maybe, how far did/can it go? Likewise for QX9750?

Google Hunain, do you use it?!

Overclocking Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 | NordicHardware
It has X6800 overclocking results using air, water, compressor and cascade.

    I know it's not a QX9750 but it's very similar.
