Hi guys
What's the BEST socket 775 air cooler for a Quad
Thermalright extreme120 would be at the top of the list followed closely by the Tuniq tower. In the middle i would be looking at the Scythe Ninja who have just made a all cooper version ( exspensive, not to sure how good it is ) and personally i would'nt use a AC7, even though it is much better than the stock cooler.
ACF7 works fine on my Q6600 with moderate OC of 3GHz. Cheap, Quiet and Effective.
Main PC : Abit IP35-Pro | Q6600 G0 @ 3GHz | 4x1GB Crucial Ballistix 8500 | MSI N460 GTX HAWX | 1 x Crucial M4 128GB SSD | Antec 182 | Corsair HX620 | Dell 2407WFP-HC | Windows 10 x64
Server : HP MicroServer N40L | 16 GB RAM | 4 X 1 GB Samsung Spinpoint F1 | ESXi 6.0 NAS : Synology DS-408 - 4 x 3GB WD RED HTPC : Acer Revo RL70 | LibreElec
The Scythe Ninja worked as well as could be expected with a B3 stepping q6600.
I know where I stand with the ninja so use it in all my new builds. Thermalright ultima 90 is good for the money.
Thermalright ultra 120 extreme or Thermalright IFX-14 would be the best
The all cooper ninja can run a q6600 @ 3.4GHz passive though (64 degrees under load)
Freezer 7 pro works very well for the money but it's quite noisey and isn't in the same league as the big coolers.
An AC Freezer 7 works wonders on a Q6600 at stock, £12 for quiet and effective cooling, great success.
But since you're after the best so you should go with the Thermalright Extreme 120.

Running a Thermalright Ultima 90 here with a Nocuta 120mm (1200rpm) fan and some AS5.
It runs really quiet and best of all, its cool, Im at 21c idle with the Q6600 at 3ghz!
Other than the stupid 40mm chispet fan the Freezer is the only thing I can really hear in my PC.. it's getting replaced soon.
I've got a QX6700 which runs about the same temperature as the surface of the sun, it seems.
I had a Scythe Infinity on it (with push/pull 120mm fans) but since my 680i board went bang I'm now running a Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 with a Scythe 1600 rpm 120mm fan on it. It performs slightly better than the Infinity did with both fans and I think it's a pretty decent air cooler.
