    Motherboard issue

Hey folks, something had come up with my ASUS P5K mobo, I had sent it back in warranty, Got a new one yesterday.

I was up all night, taking out my spare board and putting the new in, anyways, when I had screwed everything in, switched it on, the fans started, lights got on and then the system restarted after 5 seconds without anything on the monitor, then ran for 5 seconds, off again, kept doing this.

I stripped everything (tedious! Unscrew everything, Gfx Card, cooler etc etc) It still kept repeating the same thing even with only the CPU and ram, I took out the RAM, still the same.

Then I took out the CPU, placed it in my Intel Board, it kept running, then I took it out again, placed it in my ASUS board back, this time it ran fine, did not restart, I checked properly the CPU was seated perfectly both times, the socket latch closed properly, now the system is working, but still what could it be? It was CPU related that I know, but what causes this "phenomenon", thanks, sorry for the long post

    Re: Motherboard issue

Well it looks like even though the latch was down properly that some--one etc of the CPU pins were not making proper contact with the socket. It could have also been due to numerous other things. Be happy that it now works and hope that if it was an intermittent fault on your new M/B that it does not come back.
