about 3 months ago i killed my nf7-s rev1.1 with bios coruption. after being a lazy git for the time in between i had decided to fix it, to either use, or sell, as i have a rev2 board now.
the only way it could be done is new bios chip = expensive, or hot flashing, wich i decided was worth a try, if i fail and worst happens, ill just get two new bios chips.
for those that dont know what hotflashing is, its where you boot up one working board with a boot disk, remove the bios chip, insert the b0rked one, flash, switch em back and restart.
having not done before i b0rked it slightly. first, "system bios cacheable" needed to be enabled in bios, then as i had to restart, i swtiched chips back, but it didnt go in properly - i booted with about 3/4 of the bios, with io errors when it started to read floopys. pusehd it in properly, then next i got cpu unworkable error when i booted - related to bios chip being prev half out i think. this is where i might have damaged it? anyway a few attemps later i had got it flashed.
now that didnt bother me too much, but i didnt expect this - now prime95 isnt stable. same settings as before, nope. even decreased fsb 5mhz (making cpu 50mhz less) and then inc vcore by 0.025. still just as bad. apart form that, no probs though, and its confusing me whats wrong.
any ideas? the next thing i will try is reflashing this chip (not hot flashing it!) as it might have got partly corrupt with being half out, though i doubt win2k would even boot if the bios was b0rked....
btw forgot to add, prime95 is failing almost instantly, usually within 1 min. i think maybe its getting bit hotter than it should, but its been up lot higher recently at same settings with no probs...
