    No PCI-e plug! New PSU..

Could someone state a good PSU? Just realised my old one doesn't have a PCI-e plug on it... won't get far without one.

    It needs to power:

    Q6600 processor
    Abit IP-35 Dark Raider
    Asus EN8800GT 512MB
    200GB HDD (IDE)
    4GB OCZ Platinum PC6400 800Mhz

    thanks for your time

Corsair 520, thats what I'm using with a similar setup to you. Very nice and quiet PSU with stable voltages.

Failing that you can buy adapaters to allow pci - e connectivity via molex plug on your current psu. Personally I'd want more then 500 watts to power your setup so i'd go for a Antec Quattro 750 or 1000

    That's major overkill

Get any of the Corsair PSUs as they are very well regarded around here for being both quiet and stable, and you get a 5 year warranty.

Go for the HX520 if you want modular, or the HX620 if you're going for SLI in the future.

If you're not bothered about modular get the VX550 or even the VX450 should be up to the job (maybe not SLI though).

See this barge pole? don't get in touching range.

Not sure on thoes, I seem to remember the coolmaster m520 getting good reviews
You'll not really need more than a good 500-550w PSu
remember there's a world of differnce between a good PSU and a bad PSU, amoungst other things bad ones tend to fudge there numbers far more.

haha, to be honest, that IS the first one i looked at

but no, I came to my senses, and the one Im really looking at (as far to say as getting my card out my wallet) is this one:

Coolermaster RealPower 620W Modular PSU - SLI Ready - Ebuyer

I thought if i get the 620W, if i every decide to go SLI, Ill be ready with a PSU plus i like the colour, and i really like the modular thing! as I dont really have many peripherals (1 x HDD, 1 x GPU and 1 x FDD) I like the fact that I can remove some cables til i need them, rather than having them traped round the back

one more question; when people say 'overkill' that just means more power than needed right? And not actual blow my stuff up??

Re: No PCI-e plug! New PSU..

Yeah more power than needed, the major problem when you have a PSU which is too large is that it doesn't operate at peak efficiency and the is potential for the to be more noise at very low loads.

I would suggest the Corsair HX520W or the HX620W or an equivalent powered Enermax Liberty, probably wouldn't go for the Coolermaster as their PSUs are a bit of an unknown quantity where as Corsair and Enemax tend to receive only good feedback.

Thumbs up Re: No PCI-e plug! New PSU..

Thank you all. Ive decided to go with the Corsair HX520W rather than the Coolermaster 620W. After reading all your replies, I also found out that the Coolermaster is loud? So Corsair it is

So 520W will be good enough yeah?

Also, will this fit in the Coolermaster CM-690 case?

Even 300W would be enough, but that doesn't leave much room for losses due to ageing capacitors.

Yeah it will be good enough and I have not heard of compatibility problems with the CM-690 so would guess it fits fine as both items are popular so if the was an issue I'm sure we would have heard more about it!

I wouldn't - what you recommended is complete overkill, imho. I'm running an E8400, slightly pre-overclocked 8800GT, IP35 Pro, two opticals, three hard drives on a 480W Tagan. One that's four years old, to boot.
