    NEC Powermate VL4 from 2003

    CPU = Pentium 4 / 2.8 GHz
    RAM = 256MB (DDR 333 / PC 2700) + 512MB (DDR 400 / PC 3200) = 768 MB

    I really like the size of this computer.

    There's a wireless card in the PCI slot.

    Bought it 2nd hand in October 2006 for £80 without hard drive.
    Has done its duty very well so far.

    It's more than good enough for word processing and internet.

    Temperatures are around 30º to 35º C idle and around 45º C when playing Halo - Combat Evolved ... according to Everest.
    Halo only plays with around 10 to 30 FPS at 800 x 600 resolution with this little chicken.

    When it's very quite in the room, the noise bugs me. I presume the loudest part is the hard drive.

    Re: NEC Powermate VL4 from 2003

    Hey guys, i have a pc like this. Its a VL5 but its the same size. Flex ATX case. Im unsure what type of graphics card are able to fit in it? I found one ATI AGP lying about and it too big in width and doesnt fit the blackplate properly.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks
    Amrit

    I had a lot of those NECs, very tidy little systems.

    Re: NEC Powermate VL4 from 2003

    This motherboard hasn't got AGP and certainly not PCI-E.

    As far as I know, the only chance to get a graphics accelerator on this board would be a PCI-card, like ...

    Sapphire Radeon 7000 (64 MB)

    128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI

    I personally wouldn't recommend this upgrade as the performance is highly insuficient compared to PCI-E graphics cards.

    Ergo: you cannot avoid changing your system if you want a noticeable boost in performance.

    Re: NEC Powermate VL4 from 2003

    I don't think either of those would fit, as it very much looks like it would only accept low-profile cards (well, the VL4 anyway).
