    Akasa Mirage 62 Problem.

I bought a custom built system of Scan about a year ago and it came boxed up in an Akasa Mirage 62 case. A few months ago I bust the front side USB/Firewire ports and Audio Jacks, these were fairly convenient and I want to get a replacement for them but I don't want to try and get hold of a brand new front side panel. Is it possible to simply get the font side ports and jacks on their own and just stick them in and connect them to the mother board? What happened before was that I broke the USB port by accident connecting my camera up and that shorted out the system and I couldn't turn it on until I disconnected the front side jacks and ports from the motherboard.

Hope someone knows what I'm on about. This has been bugging me for ages, walking round the back off my desk to get to the other usbs, etc, is a ball ache, yep, I'm lazy.

    Some advice would be great.

Unless it's a common-sized component I doubt you'll get much joy (worth an email to Akasa though), and even if it is common to a lot of cases I doubt you'll ever find one sold or available separately.

How about a small and cheap media reader or fan controller with included USB ports as an alternative?

I can vouch for the first and last as working fine.

Rang the bloke at Akasa and he said he could send me one out for a fiver, rang Scan and they said I might need an entirely new front panel. Bit confused. Its a perfectionist thing, don't like the most expensive device in my room having a bust part.

Have you tried connecting the cable to a different usb header on the mobo, I ask because you say you "broke the USB port by accident connecting my camera up and that shorted out the system..."

The front port may not be the damaged point, it may have shorted at the mobo end, and just damaged that.

It may be that when you connect to a diff header it starts working normally, and you have a fully functioning front panal again. Got to be worth trying.

If this doesn't work, get the deal from the man at Akasa.

Bite his hand off and get that cheque in the post - sounds like a good deal to me!
