Need advise on speakers please.

hey ya i have just bought the Razer barracuda gaming audio card and want to use
the optical out for a set of desktop speakers preff a 2.1 with sub,
so any thoughts would be welcome ty.

I don't think we have anyone called ty, but in my opinion you're not going to notice the difference between optical and normal cables if you're using desktop speakers in the nearby vicinity of your computer.

I'd agree with that - unless you are going to get a hi fi amplifier and a decent set of speakers, you really won't notice the difference. The only advantage you may see is that the optical connection is immune from elecctrical intereference.

were recommended by someone on Hexus a few months ago - they have had good reviews - not overly expensive and worth considering, but I haven't tried them myself. Otherwise some of the offerings from JBL, Logitech, Cambridge Soundworks are all worth looking at - or preferably listening to.

A Google search using something like Hi Fi computer speakers will give you lots of other mfrs and reviews.

Although they don't have an optical port, the Logitech X-230's I use with my Xifi are awesome for 2.1 speakers.

Ditto i have a matching setup, sound is excellent for the price. I also have some Creative Pro Gamer G500's which are also fantastic!

I have the Logitech X240s on my US system, and IMO they're even better than the 230s.

they look nice one question about them is can i use an optical cable on them as i now use the razer headset as well so the only option for sound is by the optical cable

Most speakers have a headphone socket as well so you can use headphones as well as speakers.

yup true but with razer sound card and head set they use a totally diff connection (unless you
use the adapter which tbh iwas hoping not to use as having to many wires hanging about as it is, this is why was hoping to make use of the optical on the sound card
