If I replace my E6600 for a Q6600 G0?
Seeing as my E6600 runs nicely @ 3.6GHz will I actually notice a difference in performance, even if I clock the G0 to 3Ghz+
Tough one to answer - i went from c2d to c2q myself and it's not night and day in all honesty. Some things are faster - acronis TI will 100% all four cores whilst backing up, and mp3 encoding no longer starves your machine of cpu (letting you get on with other things). Games - much more difficult to quantify.
However, Quad sounds cooler than Duo.
So get one.
Depends on your usage. Quad-core can be beneficial on some applications (usually such as folding or video encoding related) or if you have/want to make it a habit of not closing your applications and tabbing between gaming, browsing and working etc. Individual games are not optimised enough for quad-core at the moment though.
If I was in a position of already having a 3.6Ghz C2D though, I probably would hold till Nehalem, unless you don't mind taking the time to sell the E6600 and are able to get a decent sum for it to cover the cost of the Q6600.
