    Which Graphics memory

Is it better to have DDR3 or DDR2 on a graphics card? I have seen a card with 512mb ram but it is DDR2.

    Re: Which Graphics memory

the ammount or speed of ram is not as important as the actual core of the graphics card. It would be desirable to have a faster core but only 256mb ram. Which card are you actually looking at? Obviously DDR3 will be better than DDR2, but it may not mean the card is actually much better.

    Re: Which Graphics memory

The 2600 is the old version of this

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

Big cooler but passive (same as the 2600 you picked in fact) so it will be silent and can handle pretty much any HD playback you could throw at it. The memory speed difference shouldn't really affect HD playback.

    Re: Which Graphics memory

For £60 you can get a 7800GTX from ebuyer. This is easily the best performing card for £60 but it wont necessarily be silent. It all depends on what you are looking for in a card. If you are looking for a media centre card go for an ATI 3XXX, if you want a gaming card go for the 7800. Link:

    Re: Which Graphics memory

Dont get too hung up on the amount of ram, the performance difference will be negligible unless ur playing at high res which these cards will struggle with (except the 7800GTX maybe)

    Re: Which Graphics memory

I dont think that cooler is compatible with the 7800GTX, at least it is not listed on the scan website. Do you really need absolute silence, the card will probably be reasonably quiet, maybe you could try it out and then decide whether you want to silence it. Also remember changing the cooler will invalidate the warranty (apart from EVGA I think, which this is not).

Arctic Cooling Where can i get Rev2?

    Edit: Found one.

Now, is the Nvidia 7800GTX 256MB DDR3 Dual DVI TV Out PCI-E Graphics Card worth getting? Will it be a good card to use on most of the new games out? Will it be ok for bigger screens, i.e, 20" Widescreen? Thanks

    Re: Which Graphics memory

For a 7800 GTX you need a Arctic cooling Accelero S1 rather than the S2, Scan have them on pre-order for £15.

The 7800 GTX is probably the best card you can get for £60 (£75 with the cooler) but for not a lot more you could get a better card in the shape of a 3850 256MB (probably about £85). May need to change the cooler, but the stock cooler is very quiet according to all the reviews I have seen.

    Re: Which Graphics memory

That is the S1 i have linked to, Rev 2. Thing is, with the 3850 256mb card the total would be nearly £120 with a cooler aswell. Too much for me.
