    AMD dual-core optimizer tool?

    Hi all,

I recently upgraded to an Opteron 185 (s939) to replace my old single-core Athlon64. I read something recently about some AMD dual-core optimizer tool which supposedly improves the performance of some apps which aren't coded to behave well on multiple core systems. A couple of google searches later I've read some pretty negative forum posts to the effect that some users have had problems with it on their systems.

I wondered if anyone here has used this and if so would they like to share their impressions of the thing with me? I have installed the Windows update that fixes some TSC timing issue on dual-core machines, given that do I still stand to gain anything with the AMD thing?

    Cheers in advance

Here's the site: AMD Athlon™ 64/FX Processor Utilities & Updates

And the answer was yes for me on my Athlon. YMMV.

I've never had a problem with it. It is basically an AMD version of the timing issue - IMO it's better to use the AMD one than the windows one.

There's no noticeable performance gain unless you have an application (like supreme commander) that ends up waiting to allow mistimed threads to catch up. Rather, the main benefit is an almost total elimination of bugs like animation loops that are mistimed due to the timing issue.

    Re: AMD dual-core optimizer tool?

No idea if it made any differences for performance settings but in the MMORPG I played Lineage 2 it stopped crashes or something called negative delta time errors.

and I've uploaded my set of AMD Dual Core Drivers and tools and such so if you ever need them they are here.

    AMD Dual Core Drivers

Virus Scan them too but I'm sure they haven't got anything but be safe I say! This is just a collection of various ones from the net. There's Cool N Quiet in there too, but it will tell you what it is. Entry.zip is a registry file for CnQ iirc.
