    Question Windows mobile multi tasking?

It's been years since I've developed for a mobile device, how good is the Windows mobile os at multi tasking?

We are looking at having Ipaq's connected to a bar code or swipe reader but periodically its going to be updating its local database against one downloaded from a server, and we don't want the swipe reader to not work during this.

edit : I'm being thick, its not windows mobile, its windows ce.
