    Gigabyte P35C DS3R - Keeps resetting itself

I've got what I assumed was a stable overclock - my first: http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...p35c-ds3r.html It's usually fine and will run 24hr plus OK in Orthos. Every now and again though, when I turn the machine on, it doesn't post, resets itself and so loses the overclock.

The weird thing is, this only tends to happen when the machine is cold i.e. not been on for at least a few hours. Generally, if I leave it on for only a short time, then reset, reload the overclocked settings, it'll post just fine (& as above, is fine once it's up and running).

Any ideas? Any suggestions as to what I can try or what might be up would be very much appreciated

    Spec as below:

    CPU: e2140 1.6ghz @ 3ghz, 1.26v

Do you leave the plug on at the wall?

Re: Gigabyte P35C DS3R - Keeps resetting itself

Cold booting and OC resetting seems to be VERY common with Gigabyte boards, my P35-DS4 had this problem, and then it degraded further such that my FSB changes were not recognised at all (BIOS would say 9x360, POST would say 9x266)
Sometimes it wouldn't boot unless I reset CMOS.

I tried all sorts of things under the sun, in the end I RMAed, since it was so new I refunded.

Try disabling "Legacy USB drive support" in the BIOS.

Re: Gigabyte P35C DS3R - Keeps resetting itself

    Thanks - I'll try tonight.

On a side point then, how much power does a modern system use while in sleep mode? Is that likely to make little impact if the problem is that the system is physically cold?

Re: Gigabyte P35C DS3R - Keeps resetting itself

No joy after disabling Legacy USB drive support.

Annoying thing is that booting up, using it long enough to google "p35c ds3r cold boot" and then resetting, it was ok and kept the overclock settings.

and the google result was this thread!

If it's cold boot, is it naive to think upping the CPU volt a bit could sort it? (it's quite low at the moment I think, about 1.26v)

Re: Gigabyte P35C DS3R - Keeps resetting itself

Doesn't seem that low, but if you are OC then it may need upping a notch, presuming that's the default. Maybe it's not the CPU though, but the motherboard. Try upping the MCH voltage a notch or three.
