Question XP problems after bootup screen!

some times on xp pro i get a blank screen after it has finished booting...It loads up the xp boot screen then just stays blank! also this can happen after shutting the computer down using a a quick power key on the keyboard!it sometimes also keeps doing this then after about 5 trys works.why is this? I have a brand new system: asus a7n8x-e deluxe, asus ati radeon 9600xt, 512DDR corsair xms3200 pro series, Maxtor Diamondmax 9 120gb ata133 7200rpm 8 mb cache, and a asus 52x32x52.
    what is the problem?

    any help would be great.

The time inbetween the boot screen and the logon screen can sometimes be quite a while which means you might be stuck with a blank screen for a while. How long do you wait?

If not, clean re-install i think just to make sure

Leave it longer! Mine would take 1 minute+ sometimes.

Someone earlier posted in a similar thread I started a while back about BootVis from Microsoft. It's a tool that you can use to monitor a boot and it will show you where the time is being spent. In my case it was network stuff - didn't know what to do to sort it though

    Download here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=664

hmmm, is it an lcd you have attached? i also have no idea if this is relevant, but does 'init display device' in bios have an impact if its not set to agp (if you're using an agp card? are you able to try another gfx card?

You could try and hit F8 after the BIOS screen and start XP in safe mode. Maybe you can work out what up there... eg maybe conflicts showing in Device Manager...

I had a problem where i changed montiors and windows wouldnt dsiplay after bootup screen.

When your turn your PC on, after post, but before windows loads, press f8 until windows loading options shows, choose choose VGA mode. if it loads fater that just uninstall your graphic driver, boot windows again, and re-install them.
