Re: making my pc quieter.
umm changing the fans to quieter spec ones would help a lot. I've got some very very quiet sharkoon ones myself. Also changing your heatsink could help noise as well as performance if you decide to overclock. I've got an artic cooler 7 one in my setup.
good luck!
Re: making my pc quieter.
What other fans are in the system?
I see you have an 8800GT, I doubt that is very quiet.
Which HSF do you have?
The antec fans wont really be much different however you mount them.

Its the card.
This case, with the fans on low is practically silent.
Whats the 420W PSU aswell????
Re: making my pc quieter.
I bought some Akasa Ambers the other week for my Chieftec Dragon. I was half expecting to be able to hear them, but I can't, and I'm talking about 80mm fans too. I can only hear my PSU and hard drives.
For your case though Akasa Ambers in 120mm flavour should do the job just nicely :) £3.70 I paid for mine each from Aria last week.
Re: making my pc quieter.
my hsf is Thermaltake blue orb 2
the other fans are just the graphics card fan and the standard antec fans.
links to reccomended items would be helpful

Re: making my pc quieter.
Well if it were me I would unplug the antec fans to see if they are really causing the problem or the 8800GT which is what I imagine the problem is.
My P182 is so quiet with the tri-cools I barely know it's on.
If it is the case fans it's almost certainly going to be the 200mm fan which I read makes a different noise to the 120mm's and can be a slight annoyance.
If it is the GT would you willing to change the cooler on it?

The Tri-Cools and the 200mm fan are just about silent, particularly on the LOW setting.
Nearly all noise from PC's now is either the GPU (8800GT's are exactly quiet), the PSU (especially if its a cheapo) or the hard drives.
Im certain the 900 is no louder than a P182
Re: making my pc quieter.
yes i will be able to replace the gpu cooler.
it is a xfx graphics card. will it void the warrenty if i change the cooler?
the PSU is a OCZ GameXStream Power Supply 700watt you wouldnt call that a cheap psu would you?
my hard drives are maxtor.
Re: making my pc quieter.
i have know a lot of noisy PSU what make/model is it ?
Re: making my pc quieter.
Re: making my pc quieter.
Well I have that PSU and it's pretty quiet, I wouldn't think that was causing any trouble, but again.. I would just unplug all the case fans and then isolate what makes the most noise.

It's strange, the 8800GT I have (a model by Gainward) is virtually never audible. Last time I heard the fan was after 14 hours of gaming. Have you tried any kind of fan control software for your card? I'm just using the Expertool that came bundled with the card.
Re: making my pc quieter.
If you have the Blue Orb 2 on 12V it can be quite noisy, although it should mostly be the "whoosh" of air moving.
