Question Need Parts for my Sis's Toshiba Equium A60-692, Where is best Place to Buy?

I need some spare parts for my sisters Tosh, Such as

A DVD-RW drive as it has gone faulty...
A new left Hinge for the TFT
And to buy a 1 GB Ram stick as its slow as a dog running off 256mb Shared memory

I am more of a PC Man ..... but can i stick any OEM DVD-RW into the Laptop or does it have to be the same one that came with this model of Laptop? As like PCs they are all the same size and fit.

Does any one know a good website for spare parts? As i want to see who else is out there before i resort getting charged an arm and a leg by ordering it from Tosh direct.

I am trying to bid on eBay for a faulty one and use that for spare parts but no guarantee what parts are faulty and which are not.

    Cheers

I am not sure about the first two, but you should certainly be ok getting laptop ram from any reputable e-tailer such as scan or ebuyer.

I was looking at RAM and have found the type it is like

    DDR II SDRAM
    SO DIMM 200-pin
    Memory Speed 533 MHz ( PC2-4200 )
    RAM Features Unbuffered
Supply Voltage 1.8 V I think the Laptop says it uses 2.5v? So does this mean it cant use this ram? Does it have to be 2.5v?

    Cheers

When i go to buy a replacement DVD-RW drive what do i need to look for to make sure its compatible.

Like for a PC DVD-RW you look for IDE or SATA drive....
What do i look for on a Laptop DVD-RW drive... it says ATAPI on it? Is that the type of connection?

A bit of the tread revival but i found a few things for you

    Firstly memory:
    Untitled Page

    then hinges:
HINGES TOSHIBA SATELLITE EQUIUM A60 LCD 15' on eBay, also, Screens LCD Panels, Laptop Accessories, Computing (end time 19-Mar-08 15:28:03 GMT)

and i think you can use standard drives in Toshiba but they use a custom bezel though they are easily removed

Some laptop manufactures use property connections with their optical drives which is a pain in the lower back. The photo of the optical drive you have there malice looks like it's got a standard connection which is used for most machines, if the drive you are replacing has the same connection then you can buy pretty much any laptop optical drive. I don't think there are any SATA laptop optical drives so any IDE one would do.
