I want to eat my cake and have it too (fastest, quietest, cheapest, best quality, most features, supporting the latest API support, most compatible etc.), but if that's not possible, I'll settle with a faster DX10 cards over a slower DX10.1 card.

Nops, AFAIK only the HD 38xx support it, along with SM 4.1

I am pretty sure it's the only option you can buy right now. There is also the S3 Chrome 400 when it's released, but S3 is not exactly aiming for performance leadership with it.

I'm the opposite, i'd rather a slower card with 10.1 support

Even though absolutely nothing supports it?
Thats makes absolutely NO sense at all.

BTW...do you really think anyone witha DX10 (faster) card will be left out in the cold? Nah........

It might not make any sense to you now, but in a few months time it might, it's my preference because I have a dx9 card atm.

I don't need my games to play at anymore than 30 fps anyway, so I don't care about a slight hit in performance and I like the new features of dx10.1.

You take yourself far too seriously btw...

Re: best bang for your buck gfx card?

It takes at least a year for an API update to be properly taken advantage of. I do not foresee developers rushing out to implement DX10.1 to be honest. With few exceptions, I generally find it better to buy for today's game than in anticipation of future games. The best you can expect in a few months time is a handful of games (5<) that begins to use DX10.1 features. It takes almost a full upgrade cycle for a new API to become the norm and well utilised. For me, it's more of a tie breaker all else being equal rather than a deal maker.

No i dont...i was just responding to your comment.

Also, if you think 10.1 will have support in 'a few months' i am just about certain you will be disappointed.

No game house will bother unless nVidia decide to use it aswell because the game house will be cutting out the largest segment of their revenue ie. nVidia users.

I just want to get it out of the way now if you know what I mean, I don't intend to upgrade for another year or two after I buy this card.

even if the games do support it, it wont be like the DX9 to 10 jump where there is a massively noticable difference in appearance/experience. The differences will be extremely minimal. Its 10 to 10.1 - come on think about it. You wont have to upgrade in another year either way... you managed with a DX9 card for long enough

Re: best bang for your buck gfx card?

We are talking about cards not games though, the jump from the 7900GTX to the 8800GTX was pretty substantial. The differences in games are subtle i agree but when can you think of a time when it changed from one type of DX to another and it was much more of a change than this one? it takes time for the cards and games to mature before the potential of DX10 can be fully seen.
