Well looking at reviews they can be clocked to 3.2/5 at the most due to FSB limits and that would make it 7% faster than a overclocked q6600 I'm in the market for a quad core to but I think I'll be going with a q6600.
I wouldn't buy this over a Q6600. The low multi will be an issue for most users in getting a high overclock
The Q9300 also has 6mb cache compared to 8mb on the Q6600
especially as Scan has the q6600 @ £144.51, compared to q9300 @ £189.52 (the Q9300 is retail, however).
If you're going for a Yorkfield you've got to wait on the Q9450 if overclocking and you'll want a decent motherboard too. The Q9300 would be a good alternative to the Q6600 at stock speeds or mild overclocks, but the asking price is just too much at the moment. Prices are just inflated so they can clear existing Kentsfield stock (also explaining the lack of availability for the Yorkfields).
Just a little too pricey, q6600 is still the way to go...
If they were the same price (and they might end up that way) then they may have some merit
