Speakers Have Stopped Working!

Hi everyone,

I've had my Vostro 1400 for a few months now - my speakers stopped working a few weeks ago for some reason and I'm not sure why. When I plug headphones in the sound works fine and sounds great, but when I take them out I get no sound what so ever. I'm not sure why this is, but was hoping for some help.

You pluging headphones into the speakers and it works fine?
Or you taking the speakers out of the loop completely and plugging the headphones directly into the computer?

Sorry for the confusion. I mean the on-board speakers are not working.

sorry its a laptop :/ reckon they are probs kaput mate, try updating sound/chipset drivers (somewhere on the dell site i wud have thought) if it doesnt work just get some cheap unpowered speakers

Have you pressed the mute button? headphones still work with it on.

my bro is having the same prob on his vaio...when he moves the headfone plug in the socket he gets sound sometimes, somehow the onboard speakers and the headfone plug are connected. im not sure if its the same for the vostro though.

Waht os you using, a friend of mine had the same problem using vista premium as have I a quick uninstall of the speakers in device manager and a restart solved the preoblem.
