    Re: beep code

It is almost certainly a PC speaker. Probably the power wire has become loose. It only ever beeps during bootup (well it used to do more in DOS), or sometimes as a warning on overheating if your mainboard supports that option.

    Re: beep code

Not worth worrying about, but sounds like not a hardware issue at all. These HP machines have odd BIOSes, so your best option, if you really want it back, is to find a user group.

Is the memory count correct on the BIOS screen at bootup? Are all your fans running as they should? Any unusual amounts of heat?

    Re: beep code

Is your machine set to inform you as its status in the 'beep language'?

Some systems are configured to start up quietly (no beep, and no memory count or checkpoint code display) when no errors are detected by POST. Therefore, the POST test may have completed successfully but some other failure may be present. To enable beeps and memory count when a successful POST occurs, do the following:

Select Start Options in the System Configuration Utility.

    Set Power-On Self-Test to Enhanced.

    Save the settings and exit.
