8800GT Cooling?

Do any 8800GTs have cooling which is comparable to decent aftermarket cooling, like the Arctic Cooling Accelero AC-S1? Specifically, how cool/ quiet is this card from anyone's experience?

i don't really know anything about that from past experience but it has a lot of fins and a decent sized fan, i reckon it'll probably be quieter and probably better at cooling than the reference cooler.

I would say these two will have very good quiet cooling

The msi varient witht he VF1000 seems to offer better cooling for the Vram chips.

HR-03 is supposed to be very effective coupled with a 92mm fan

I believe that the good ol vf900 also fits the G92 8800GT/GTS', meaning you could get a real cheap card and stick one of them on.

A few of my old motherboards and graphics cards would beg to differ, they seem to have improved in leaps and bounds recently though

yeah, a while ago they had problems, but recently they've improved sooo much!

I just upgraded my 8800GT stock cooling to the Accelero S1, my load temps dropped from late 60's to 40C, idle temps also dropped by 5C. I opted for the fan addon and some extra blue ramsinks for the voltage regulators, total cost £26, well chuffed with the results

How easy was the stock cooler & casing to remove? Did it require a lot of force to prize it away from the chipset?

Very easy, removed the screws from the back of the card as below and simply lifted the HSF off with very little effort as seen in the pic above. The long part was cleaning the gunk overkill and the greasy layer on the memory chips so the sinks would stick properly
