    Watercoling SN45G

    Hi all,

A friend at work uses watercooling in his main machine and after hearing how quiet it is, I thought that I might have a go with it in my Shuttle. I realise that there's precious little room in there but hear me out......

He has a spare Aquarius 2 water cooling kit that he used to use himself, which I can have. I thought that if you get rid of the ICE cooler then a fan can still fit on the back of the shuttle with the radiator and the pump round the back. I saw some amazing German modded Shuttles a while ago with water cooling but lost the links.

    What do people think?????

There are three fans in an SN45 and watercooling will only take care of one of them......the ICE fan which, being the biggest at 80mm produces the least noise and is,anyway the easiest to quieten.......just replace it with an S3.
The graphics fan and the psu fan produce a far more noticable whine (smaller fans at higher rpm) and it is modding those that will quieten your rig the most.

However.....watercooling would be a very sexy mod to do on a Shuttle....so go for it.

Yeah, I agree about the GFX fan. I have a Creative ti4200 and it has a really whiney (sp?) fan that bugs the hell out of me, however I'll be getting a 9800 soon anyway.

The PSU needs to be opend and de-soldered before chaniginf that fan.

I looked at the S3 and S4 fans and the S4 was a touch quieter but shifter more air so I was under the impression that it would be the best replacement (if I was to keep to air cooling). The S3 shifts less air so I figured that my temps would go up even if the fan was on continuesly. Am I wrong?
