Fan for Thermaltake ultra 120 extreme.

    Hi there,

I plan to buy the Thermaltake ultra 120 extreme for my Q6600 and start overclocking. Can anyone recommend a good fan to go with it.

    Thanks

Re: Fan for Thermaltake ultra 120 extreme.

I'm using one of these Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK as recommended by someone else on the forums (I forget exactly who).

It's very good, it's quiet and pushes a lot of air and is very good value for the price!

I've got a Scythe S-FLEX 1600 on mine - seems to work well but I'm not overly concerned with noise and it'll probably be a bit louder than the one above (I'm guessing!) but it seems pretty quiet to me!

Sharkoon golf ball 2000 would be my choice.

Re: Fan for Thermaltake ultra 120 extreme.

iv not been overly impressed with my Xigmatech fan. On paper it looks good but it the fan is quite cheaply built and it seems to blow air in all directions rather than straight. Its ok for my hard drives but i would opt for the sharkoon and put the motherboard speed controller on if its for the CPU HSF.

Re: Fan for Thermaltake ultra 120 extreme.

I use Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK just because I like external fan controllers and it seems to get fair reviews. It can push loads of air if you want it to, but i typically run it quite slow. Keeps my Q6600 temps down with a 3ghz OC without making much noise.

The difference between full whack and 50% speed with this fan on the thermaltake 120 is only a couple degrees, you really don't need something amazingly powerful.

Re: Fan for Thermaltake ultra 120 extreme.

Noctua P12 is designed for CPUs (as opposed to the S12 that I use on my TR UE 120, which is better suited as a standard case fan). Seems Scan stock them now too. I'll be adding one to my next order methinks.

I use the Scythe and it's pretty quiet in my machine.

    BTW it's Thermalright, not Thermalltake.

    Thanks for the replies.

Looks like a toss up between the Scythe and the Sharkoon.

Which Scythe do you use Thorsson for the ThermalRIGHT.

    Cheers

I have one of those coolers I use Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK and a fan controller. Very quiet at low revs, moves plenty of air when needed. Not glamorous looking but works very well.

I'd say dont get the Xigmatek. Biscuit and I both own one (or did) and they aren't quiet- go for a scythe one.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
