Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
Budget seems as low as possible by the looks of things.
THe dark raider is the best board out there for the money imo. Great quality, great service, great layout, can't complain really.
I'd probably swap the cpu for one of the pentium dual cores, there is little gain in the E4***'s

I agree...the Dark Raider is probably the best budget board around.
Also, that CPU can be ditched and pick up a E2180 for half the price. Its still a nice chip and will complement the rest of your choices.
BTW.....
I have just picked up two of those 500GB Spinpoints are RAID 0'd them.
Jezzzzz its quick. :)
Good price aswell...they are only £52 on Today Only.
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
So the 2180 wont see much of a drop in performance? i dont plan on overclocking, its for my brother and stability is more of an issue, and he likes to put his PCs in hot corners so don't like OC'in them.
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
this one running 2.4GHz will be a little better at most things :)
You wouldn't get much of a heat increase with mild overclocks on these chips.. you may even be able to undervolt them while overclocking making them run even cooler
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
OK, so that would be a good alternative to the E4500 i picked? Would this pair well with the Abit Dark rider?
Really want to get it before today only ends tomorrow :)
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
Yeah they will work fine together :) .. you might find the abit board gives the chip a little courtesy FSB bump anyway.
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
Cool, last question, will it be much slower than the E4500, ive lost all ability to rate the chips on speed now the variety is so large.
I tried to check Toms for benchmarks to comapre it with say a e6300 or the E4500 V E2200
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
Nah you wouldn't notice a difference in games. There would probably be a little difference in cpu cache intensive tasks.. editing RAW photo's and such like but whether it would be noticeable I don't know.
Sounds like it's for gaming anyway in which case there won't be a noticable difference.
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
thanks for the help :)
Going to swap the 4500 for the 2220
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
One last question, thanks for being patient, Is it worth getting the dark raider over the IP-35 E which seems to lack a few sata ports and s-pdif in. I doubt these will be used, are there any other significant differences?
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
You can't get a IP35 E over a Dark Raider for a gamer. Ooh, the shame. Anyway apart from the extra bits and bobs it has better quality components which is why it should OC better, or stay more stable in a hot corner...
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
Im seriously considering buying the Dark Raider, a Nice Cpu and then putting my e6300 and DS4 into his PC :)
But in all seriousness, if there isnt going to be any OCing will there be much of a difference in terms of stability and length of life?
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
No. If you don't OC and don't need the extra bits, the IP35-E will be fine. But then with those parameters I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned AMD...
Re: Spec Check and Mobo advice please
OK, here is the epiphany I had just now whilst lying in bed, and I thought quick, to the internet
Im going to put my DS4, e6300 and X1800xt in my brother's "new" PC
Then im going to get an E8200, Dark Raider and 8800GT :)
since I buy my own PC's and my brother's is getting paid for by the folks, I should get something out of it, and im building it. Cleared it with my Dad and he said no problem, so now just need to decide if that's a good combination.
