is this ok for my first affair with a shuttle

well update time after negotiating the sale of my current system to my bro and adding some dosh myself i have decided to go for these which i will prob order next week

can you all please have a look and tell me what ya think

is the graphics card ok for gaming my 6 year old loves call of duty and would hate for it not to play

any ways heres what im going for

shuttle sn45g
80 gig 8m cache maxtor hard drive or seagate barracuda 80 gig but this is only ata 100
barton xp2500
2x 256 meg twinmos ram or 2x 256 meg of geli ram havent decided yet
powercolour 9600xt graphics card
liteon dvd combo
creative inspire silver i trigue speakers (desk to small for 4 or 5 )

what do you make of this geli ram the normal value stuff

god i now have the money but for some reason things in my mind are saying forget the shuttle go big but i dont want to why is this i read about probs with the sng45 and it puts me off a bit

currently have a fx5900 winfast in my system the shuttle will get a 9600 xt will i see a big drop in difference cant really afford a 9800

will be a first time build for me and tbh a little scared lol built big system but never shuttle

cant decide on the hard drive do i get the ata 133 8mg cache maxtor or go for the ultra quiet barracuda which is only ata100 but they say is one of the fastest around

go for the seagate as 133 doesent really exist

i would get the GeiL memory m8

If you can stretch to it buy a raptor 36GB or 74GB, I know the 36GB is a little small but the Raptors great performance make up for it.

Just a little word of warning, i went through hell and back with my SN45G and 9600XT, and i RMA'd both the shuttle and the 9600XT and had the same problem, so i dont think it was a fault in either product, they just didnt like eachother :(

I got a SN45G, Barton 2500+ and an Asus 9600XT for a friend , all work fine together - my advice watch the brands :(

I have SN45G, Barton 2500+ and an Tyan Tachyon 9600 Pro with 2x256 Corsair 3200.
Read a bit about problems with Twinmoss and nforce2 Mobo's and have a mate who had ost of probs with twinmoss and SN41G2...

Ive used TwinMOS PC3200 (2 x 256MB for dual channel) in both SN45G's that Ive built and it runs fine, afaik this ram just has problems with IGP nforce 2 onboard gfx. Both pc's pass memtest fine and run sweet.

not too comfy with your ram selection. mushkin dual packs (blue line) are probably the most reliable and compatible for a ram-picky shuttle. the 4000 models are good. 2 x 256 being ideal. low latency and oc'd models are also available.

Got crucial in mine - select the right memory from there website and they GUARANTEE that it is compatable!

If you're not overclocking go for Crucial ram, it's good solid ram with lifetime warranty but make sure you buy it from crucial directly to ensure compatibility. Lots of people use it in shuttles.

If you are overclocking get some PC3200 Kingston HyperX or Corsair and go for 2 sticks rather than one for max. performance.

Radeon wise make sure you get a 9600 with passive cooling.

Hard drive wise go for the Samsung Spinpoint with is ATA133 and a lot cooler than the Seagate.
