Re: High temp for my E6850
right then......
took the artic freezer off....found that one pin wasn't totally locked in...so that easily solved and should be easy to cure....
so cleaned off and put some MX2 compound on....not lots just a small blob...made sure all 4 legs correctly located and tightnened down and then restarted...
so instead of then finding a decrease actually fiound a slight increase of around 2/3 degrees across all the temp programs....
ffs whats going on!!!
do i try again? am i using too much/too little compound? do i just accept that i have a hot CPU (the fins on the freezer are quite hot) or do i just invest in a better cooler, if so which one do people recommend.....
Re: High temp for my E6850
I think a thin line down the centre, followed by twisting the HS gently before locking on, is the recommended method.
Re: High temp for my E6850
to spread the compound i use an old credit card cut it into a 3rd. I put a small blob about 3mm diameter and spread it evenly to create a thin layer.
If the fins are getting hot then maybe it is just a hot chip.
one last thing to check - go into the bios and find the fan controller options and make sure that the fan is set to run at 100% speed when the temps get high OR temporarily turn it off so it constantly runs at 100% during the tests.
Re: High temp for my E6850
nice one biscuit!!
right everything ok in bios so decided to see what happened if put a 120mm fan on 100% blowing on the fins and managed to get 5/6% lower!!! basically cant get the freezer pro above 800 rpm (should be 800 - 2500 rpm) even when set to 100%, i should have spotted that 800rpm wasnt right but being my first build thought it was normal...anyways at least found the prob just need to cure it!!
so i suspect (hope) it is a fan fault with the freezer pro and not a bios prob...dont suppose there is an easy to test without getting a new freezer pro or a new fan (i'll see if i can convince the supplier of the fan to send me a new one or at least a new fan!!)
thanks for the help....
Re: High temp for my E6850
Some motherboards require that you tell it whether the fan is a 3 or 4 pin fan, that shouldnt make that much difference but just check that its set to a 4 pin (i think) for the freezer, if not try plugging the freezer fan into one of the other motherboard fan plugs even though they are 3 pin only and see if it spins up any faster than before.
Re: High temp for my E6850
Is the freezer a 4 pin (PWM) or 3 pin fan? If it is 3 pin have you told the bios to control the fan by voltage rather than Pulse width modulation? Or it may be set to auto and not be sending the right voltages, worth checking anyway.
Re: High temp for my E6850
Re: High temp for my E6850
Well in that case make sure its controlling the speed by PWM and not voltage ;) and still isn't set to auto. Also worth noting what the motherboard is reporting as the CPU temperature as this is what will be used to control the fan speed not the core temps reported by ummm core temp :)
Re: High temp for my E6850
just put it in another slot and yes it is spinning much faster!!
bios doesnt seem to have an option for pin settings so what could the problem be???
i could just live with it on 100% and cooling wise be ok but would be much better to sort the prob and have silent when required pc methinks!!
Re: High temp for my E6850
sorry just seen webby and mikes posts......bios is set to performance (basically max speed)
Re: High temp for my E6850
the mobo only seems to relate to temp....
have also noticed that the chassis fan speeds will also not change when chenging the ratio in bios!!!!!!

Not quite sure what you mean by this...
What motherboard is it you have by the way, my apologies if you have already told us. If i can find out which bios it is il tell you exactly how it should be set up :)
Re: High temp for my E6850
cheers biscuit
basically have a P5k3 deluxe wi-fi motherboard with the latest bios version on (v 910)
Re: High temp for my E6850
Re: High temp for my E6850
exactly what i have entered biscuit.....chassis fans at 100% and CPU fan only at 600rpm......!!!!!!!!!
Re: High temp for my E6850
Have you tried setting it to performance mode?
