Re: New build, can it run crysis?
Back to the case, keep in mind the GX2 is very long, and won't fit in many cases. You'll need something with plenty of depth to be comfortable. I don't even believe it would fit in a P182 without removing the upper hard drive rack - obviously in a cheap case that rack would likely not be removable.
Regarding 'would it run Crysis', the answer is yes. How well is another matter and is largely dependant on the resolution you'll be running at. Crysis doesn't scale particularly well with multi-GPU (SLi/Crossfire) cards/set ups. For instance, even at a GPU crushing 1920x1200 at high, it still only achieves an average of 40fps according to Anandtech (not a source I'd normally check, but it seems OK). It's hardly much less than the 43fps at 1280x1024. Then again, 2560x1600 gets a massive 8.9fps. Crysis is very, very poor technically.
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
You may have to look for something in this kind of area Coolermaster cosmos but even then the GX2 is HUUGE so i dont know. Either way thats a superb case, i have a look at it in microdirect a few weeks ago.
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
Akasa Eclipse 62 (or mirage) would be a good choice, not too expensive and it's bloomin huge.

I'd probably just take the HDD cage out of a P182 though as long as your didn't need the extra HDD's. That was you can have a fan blowing straight onto it to :)

ditto.. i have an eclipse-62 and I can't fault it.. massive case..
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
id rather have the cosmos :P
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
O dear, case could prove to be a problem LOL will keep this thread updated on whether it fits, also whats the best way to test the speed of the rig, obviously there are lots of different speeds to worry about but im thinking about gamming really, any good applications to figure this out?
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
3DMark06 is pretty much the 'industry' standard benchmark.
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
the comsos is a decent case but get the cosmos s new version not the old one because the old one has poor cooling

Well there isnt a lot in there to be organised into such a large space tbf :p
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
That's not a case, it's a cavern... WAY too big, IMO. could almost start fitting kittens in there.
(don't ask)

At enthusiast level there is never a case too big. There's a reason why the Lian-Li V2100s and PC343 are out there. Even my Lian-Li A70 is bigger than that Eclipse in every dimension, and still I struggle to route all the cables for my rather large collection of devices. For less demanding users something like a P182 is fine, but when you start using up all the drive bays and have 5 or 6 hard drives, it soon degenerates into chaos. Using a P182 as an example it has great cable management, but when you start putting in kit further than the norm it soon becomes very cramped to work in.
The Eclipse is massively popular for a reason, and it's not its aesthetics (understated in photos though they are). ;)
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
plus you will have trouble fitting a 9800gx2 or 8800ultra/gtx in a p182 without removing the hard drive cage
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
my coolermaster was doing my head in so much i ripped out the hard drive bays and put in a converter for the 5" drive bays so i had a bit more room. Il never have more than 3 hard drives in this computer once i get a server built so the extra room to work with was a bit of a blessing.
I hate this case either way and wish i had spent a bit more cahs on a bigger one, seemed huge at the time!
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
Have been doing another cheaper build with a 9800 gx2 in it (which i havent recieved yet as its coming from america) and have specified this case:
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Recieved it yesturday and with the immense 360mm Fan on the side (excellent idea)
and two silent 120mm front and back. and looks enough space to put the gx2 in, also the side fan will really help with cooling the gx2, What you lot think?
Re: New build, can it run crysis?
I dont think that will help much...here is why.
The air balance in that machine will be all over the place due to the fan on the side.
With only 1 fan in front and 1 at the back it messes it up.
The 360mm side, if exhausting, will stop any air from going over the major componets and/or motherboard board becuase it will be sucked out of the side before it reaches them.
If the 360mm is dragging air in, then the 12omm fan at the back will not be capable of taking all that air out (as well as the intake from the front fan). This will leave warm air circulating within the case.
