Foam Backplate for CPU Help! Please! Nightmare story

    Hi,

    Its funny this honest.

Had a great PC and decided to change the case. Things have gone from bad to worse.

Bought a Kandalf LCS - set iut all up and managed to crush the northbridge - 1st time in 16 years,

    Ordered new motherboard

Tried to get foam that insulates the watercooling backplate off, and its stuck... Try to pry it oiff and it tears into 3 pieces.

I cannot find a replacemnet foam backing for the waterblock anywhere, but i see theres some foam tape in maplin.....

Is that safe to use do you think as i dont want to fry my new mobo....

You got a pic buddy? I watercool too and I can't think what this foam could be (unless I'm having a brain fart again )

A bit of neoprene sheet is what your after to stop the backplate shorting on the motherboard or any thing else which isn't conductive Ive used a couple of layers of masking tape on mine as I was impatient and its still working.

    Hiya,

Its basically a H shaped foam piece that sits between the waterblock backplate and the mobo.

I guess if i coated the metal in insulation tape, and then used some PVC foam tape as the buffer to keep the backplate off the mobo, that should work??

All this just to get a quiet pc.....

    Ah got ya

Tape would be fine assuming its all covered. Or you can get some of that 'foam stuff' that they use in arts and crafts from your local stationary shop. They do it in different thickness's so it should be easy to fine one to suit.

In fact, its what my dear mother does for a living (arts and crafts, not making backings for heatsinks ), so if you don't have any luck finding any give me a shout and i'll try and grab some off her.

The added advantage of using foam is you get the added compression that comes with it. This means should any resistors / small components be there, it will be very hard to damage them.
