    Re: OCZ vs CORSAIR?

They will probably both do roughly the same speeds, but if the higher frequency is a must, then go for the Platinum to be on the safe side. I would be surprised if they didn't use the same chips to be honest.

Yeah the Platinum can run at PC6400 CAS4 (well mine can anyway), plus it doesn't have those stupid heatspreaders which get in the way of your CPU cooler.

It's a possibility.... with the 4GB kits I'm pretty sure they all use the same ICs which is why they should in theory... I have some of the Ballistix Red for testing, and it has an EPP showing in CPU-Z for 1000MHz 5-5-5-15.....

With the 2GB kits it will be more hit and miss as the ICs vary widely..... but give it a go mate, you never know

Where can I buy RAM from alternative MFRs like OCZ, G-Skill and Geil? As Scan and CCL don't stock them.

Now this is very important, I think I can give you the reason as well.
It seems that memory chip production still has many inconsistencies in it production, this resaults in good and bad batches.
Early on Micron had a very exceptional and large batch of chips, these seemed to be bought up and used by most of the better name memory companies.
Which in turn to some very good pc6400 overclocks, however later batches while still good enough to produce stock speeds where just not as exceptional and haven't overclocked as well.

So we ended up with some very good memory, I think Corsair bulk bought a lot of thoes early chips which is why it was so good and the cost was low (at the time)

Any relatively major name is fine to me. ( heck I'm using some cheap stuff, it runs at stock ok, just cannot get any form of overclock out of it )
