will the cooling performance be effected?

i bought a Scythe Mine last week.. and i've only just returned home from my mam's and had a look at it and the pins are severely bent on 1 of the corners..

was just wondering if anyone thinks the cooling performance would be effected at all from where the bend is..
it was definately damaged in transit or pre-transit because you can tell it's taken a good few whacks 'cause a few of the fins are bent in other places aswell..

don't really want to send it back, but if the cooling performance will be lower by a decent amount then i think i will.

i would send it back, its bent the heatpipes, who knows if someones bent them back, it might cause noise as wind whistles through the bent parts..

Re: will the cooling performance be effected?

It's right at the corer of the fan, where there is going to be very little air flow.

I'm with Krakkenbus, i doubt there would be much difference in cooling perfomance.

However I would still be annoyed at the damage.

i probably asked the wrong question tbh.. it's more likely to cause more noise than less heat dissipation.

i didn't notice those pipes had been bent, but they definately are bent.. and i've also noticed that the fan will be pulling air past this bent area, not blowing past it.. will that make a difference to the whistling, if it does whistle?

yeah, i'm rather annoyed at it being damamed but if it's only gonna be cosmetic i don't mind 'cause there's no windows on my case or anything.

but it takes time.. and waiting for them to say "you done this" would just be very annoying..
if i don't need to get a replacement i'd rather not.

again.. i'd rather not have to if it's not gonna make any difference to noise or performance

i'll wait for my motherboard to return, new or old and see what it's like.. or i could maybe stick it in my dad's machine and see how it performs in there..

i already have 2 x 120mm's in it and an 8800GT, so any noise from it most likely won't be from this Scythe.. unless this bent area creates a hell of a lot of noise..

bending them back isn't really that easy 'cause it's made of the flimsiest metal known to man! i've felt stronger sheets of toilet paper tbh..

do you know if you can remove the fins?
then i'd be able to take them off, squash them flat, and stick them back on.. then the whole problems sorted..

Re: will the cooling performance be effected?

I've bent the fins on the ninja before.. (it having sliced my hand to pieces lol) and just bent them back but it wasn't as bad as that.

I'm changing my mind to sending it back lol Didn't look that closely the first time, that has had a big knock. I still dont think it will affect the cooling but it looks pretty ugly.
