Oops, i think i've broke it.

So,
I've somehow managed to break one of the capaciators off my motherboard whilst removing my graphics card.
So now, neither of my ethernet connections work.
I guess that i've been somewhat lucky and it could have actually been something that i needed.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, it may be possible to fix (but you run the risk of doing more damage if you don't know exactly what you are doing.)

Well, The legs basically snapped out of the bottom of it.
Seeing as its quite a sensetive electrial component i've just given up and purchased a PCI card.

That'll teach me to shop around for a better laid out mobo next time.

Easy to fix for anyone that knows how to use an iron.

If it's the barrel looking sort (e.g. electrolytic) that needs replacing, check out BadCaps.net for a capacitor replacement tutorial.

I bought a faulty X-Fi Elite Pro for £24 with knocked off electrolytic caps, repaired it using info from that site above, great success!

Its a SMD. 8mm 100uF (cba with inserting symbols) 16v.

As you can see, the connections were made at the top and they have been completely ripped out.

That doesn't look like a SMD to me. (could be wrong, I'm a noob at electronics)

Even if it is SMD, find the equivalent cap and solder it the lazy way like me

(technically not lazy since this was originally a rough test, was going to re-do it the proper way but... meh... )

Aye, doesn't even have to be tidy, as long as there is no shorts / properly soldered.

Honestly, for anyone thats used an iron for a while, it will take longer for the iron to heat up than it will for the job to be completed

I'll wip out my iron tomorrow and have a few test runs on a few old components, see what damage i can cause.
