I'v just had to RMA my trusty Asus P5K Deluxe and as the Deluxe is no longer in production I will most probably be offered a P5K-Premium and/or P5E as a replacement.
Which one is the better of the two?

the one that is more expensive
they are both the same chipset so i think they would be about the same.
would get the premium tho, as it seems to have more features..
i'm using the p5k premium just now with a q6600, it's overclocked to 3.6ghz no probs. But i have had something (maybe voltage regulators?) squealing after a while on full load, doesn't really matter though as it's hardly ever on full load unless i'm stress testing it.
I got the premium. I have an e6850 at 3.8ghz.
They are both good. I would go for the one that has the features you need.
He said he already has got the p5e.
Good choice, i swapped out my P5k for a P5e, hadnt booted it yet was still brand new, but basically:
P5e:
+supported higher fsb and higher ddr2 speed
-Temps on the mobo were slightly higher
+The soundcard was much better
+X38 has pci-e 2.0
+Both PCIE slots were 16x not 16x and 4x board had the same colour scheme but was RofG
+AND If you peel of the P5E sticker it says maximus formula
+OH yea!! Also Icouldnt use like 4 of my satas on the p5k but on the P5e they are angled which was +great and allowed for a tidier case.
P5k
+Cooler
+Slightly better overclock
+More fan headers
-Slower in benchamrks
-Satas covered
-Onboard sound as oppose to PCIe x1 soundcard
