Re: New PC Purchase.. Help Req..
I'd probably go with an Intel Q6600. Prices will drop next week making them £140 or less :)
Motherboard: Abit IP-35 dark raider is very good, and you will get a decent overclock out of it (~3.4GHz) :)
PSU: cosrair 520w is fantastic. I've used a couple of them in builds.
Go with the RAM that has standard heat spreaders. The extended ones on dominator can be more trouble than they are worth.
Normal 4GB XMS2 is fine. There is some OCZ stuff on memoryconfigurator for £55 at the moment which would suit.
Not sure about the monitor.
Oh and your font is weird..had to be different didn't you
Re: New PC Purchase.. Help Req..
Is that a Phenom with the bug, or just a normally underpowered one? Anyway, what sM said. Q6600/IP35 and skip the fancy heatsinks. And get a decent aftermarket cooler by Thermalright or Scythe. And the font sucketh... :)
Re: New PC Purchase.. Help Req..
Thats the new phenom sans the bug but still not performing as well as it should be to compete with the intel unfortunatly. The unlocked multiplier probably counts for nothing as it most likely won't overclock.

That's the old windows system font, a truetype replication of the dos font

Re: New PC Purchase.. Help Req..
DDR RAM - OCZ, Crucial, GSkill, Geil, Corsair, Patriot. All good makes. Buy on price, and with a Q6600 get PC2-6400 unless you are going for extreme cooling.
Re: New PC Purchase.. Help Req..
unfortunatly, i'd have to agree with going intel (a few years ago it was totally different) AMD are just going down the s**thole nowadays.
Never built an intel system, never wanted to, but looks like AMD are forcing me to for my next one:(
Re: New PC Purchase.. Help Req..
I think the Q6600s are going for £120 on overclockers.co.uk atm....

How strict is your budget? I would definitely go with Intel, and the Q6600 is cheap and great value for money, and the same is true of the motherboards you can fit that in.
If you could spend a bit more money, you could probably get the newer Quad Q9300, Yorkfield core chip, but I don't know much about those yet.. Maybe someone else could suggest.
As for your RAM, the speed should be determined by the speed of your motherboard bus and also whether you are going to overclock or not. And the amount you get has a lot to do with whether you are going to use a 64 bit operating system and what you do and whether you need it or not. If you are still using XP 32bit like me and most people, then most people just stick to 2 gig. If you have a 64bit operating system though, then go for it. And if you are a hardcore gamer or use lots of photoshop or something, then I would probably just go for 4 gig anyway, even in XP. Also, I personally would get 4 gig of that dominator stuff just because it's so ridiculously cheap nowdays and the dominator stuff can run nice and cool and overclocks well. If you are determined to keep the price down though, you could save about 20 quid odd by just getting the other stuff. Up to you whether it's worth 20 quid or not.
For the PSU, definitely get the Corsair. Whether you want the 620 or 520 depends on what else you are going to do with the PC. If you are going to have loads of high speed hard disks in there and usb devices and DVD burners and an uber CPU chip that you overclock and stuff... then you might want to get the 620W version. That's what I got because I like having headroom to do pretty much whatever I want. But the 520 version is plenty for most people. Its a great PSU.
As for the monitor, I don't know. I hate all LCD's so I'm in a bad mood with monitors at the moment :p I personally would get a 20" or a 24" instead, and look for an 8bit version because they look better than the 22" monitors which all use 6 bit panels. But people always argue about whether you can tell the difference or not. And again, it depends on what you are going to do and what you want to achieve though. For most people I'd suggest just getting any old cheap thing. If you are serious about watching movies and games on it, and/or photoshop type work, then spend more and get something better and 8bit. It depends how picky you are too.
