It does sound like a dirty lense as it stops reading the dvds. I take it you have tried other dvds in it?

yeah - and not only DVD, its the same with all CDs - ok I'll try a lense cleaner ASAP - if it doest work i might just buy i new one, can it always was noisy and it has huge spin down times - after about 5mins it slows right down but doest stop totaly for another 10mins after that

I get this with some disks, my reason is just because mines getting old and its having trouble tracking newer CDRs (I've had it since before 1x CDRWters existed) but yours sounds like a dirty lens.

oh and sell your old drive on ebay, explain the problem, people will of course think

"are the lense is dirty, but the guy dont know" pay you 10 quid for it, thinking your the fool for not knowing the lense is dirty,

but you are not the fool, as you got your nice new and i expect faster dvd drive working away

    you cannot go wrong

lol - i like your style!!!

and it is only a 40x 10x, which is annoying with x40 CD-RW (CD-RW has to wait for the CD!!!)

and its dam noisy!! - now i'll just have to convince my DAD!! to make with the cash
