hdmi male to dvi female, then dvi to dvi

My question is, is there any difference between having these 2 following connections:

1, From pc --> dvi to dvi, then the dvi male connected to this adaptor : DVI-D Female to HDMI Male Adaptor (Gold) :: HDMI / DVI Adaptors :: High Definition (HDMI DVI) :: Cable Universe

    or

    2, url=http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/5267365/Linx-Luxury-24k-Gold-Plated-HDMI-DVI-2-4m-Cable/Product.html

i wanted my pc to be a large distance away from my hdtv, so i wanted like a 5 ish meter cable, so i figured it would be cheaper to buy a 5m dvi to dvi cable, then use that converter..., as opposed to a long dvi male to hdmi male.
but i want as high as quality as possible, without having to spend ludicrous amounts. (am im sure most of the world does)

Re: hdmi male to dvi female, then dvi to dvi

    Why not just use this?

HDMI to DVI Cable 5m :: HDMI to DVI / DVI to HDMI Cables :: High Definition (HDMI DVI) :: Cable Universe

It's a digital connection, it either works or it doesn't, you won't get a better picture with a different cable. And anything that says you do is marketing bull out to rip you off.

Re: hdmi male to dvi female, then dvi to dvi

i've heard that as well, that its digital, so quality wont matter,
but some people are adamant that the quality is a bit better with higher end cables.

surely there must be some difference between a monster cable and some budget one? or is it just hype so that gullable people like myself spend lots of money?

Re: hdmi male to dvi female, then dvi to dvi

    Got it in one.

Sure there is better build quality, but that won't help your picture or sound. Do you hear people extoling the virtues of a mega expensive cable when playing WoW on big monitors? no? what a shocker.

You read reviews of HDMI (or DVI same thing) cables and reviewers saying that things are more vibrant, more fluid, smoother, sharper, etc. It's all bollocks.

Re: hdmi male to dvi female, then dvi to dvi

    ah ok then
so back to the original question,
does it matter if i connect dvi to dvi then an hdmi adaptor (ie, any loss because of use of an adaptor etc)
    or
will a direct dvi to hdmi cable be better.

Re: hdmi male to dvi female, then dvi to dvi

It won't make a different in quality.

But if possible, stick to a single cable if possible. This reduces the risk of there being a fault or defect, which will stop the whole thing from working.

The fewer connections the better. Especially with HDMI being just a push fit connector, at least with DVI there are screw fittings on the ends.

It will also cost you more when using adapters
