I'm looking for a new CPU HSF.
Any recommendations?
I have a 2500+ Barton
I'd like to overclock it to 3200+, but my current fan only supports upto 2800+

a lot of people recommend the Volcano 12, never used one but they are quite cheap n from what ive heard does the job. or for sumthing a lil better try an slk800, that way u can use a fairly quiet fan aswell.

Judging by the reviews the actual heatsink part of the Volcano performs pretty much on par with an SLK800 or 900.Originally Posted by iMc

the volcano12 will do the job for a very good price and you get to play wwith speed / sound levels also , but slk800 can get more air around the base of the cpu socket which tend to help OC a bit but at for a lot more £££££
That's it really. Volcano 12 - 9.5\10 for not very much at all, SLK900U 10\10 for a lot more.
Not worth it, unless you need every last degree of temp, or every last Mhz of overclock.
Volcano 12 for the money \ performance bargain.
use an aero 7+ they support 3200. then you get a fan controller so you can set it to whatever speed or noise level you want.
Another vote for the Volcano 12 if you're looking for some cheap, but serious cooling. Otherwise, if money isn't an option, something in the SLK series + tornado + rheostat is a great air cooling combo.
One other thing, you may also be interested in getting that Gigabyte cooler. Not bad in performance and also you can use it on three different platforms (XP, A64 and P4).

I have a Cooler Master Aero 7 LITE on my Barton 2500+. Without any overclocking at all it keeps my processor at a steady 36 degrees. Its also a really quiet fan.
I've had an aero 7 before and it shifted hot air like a paper bag.
